BARFL Footy Legends
I want to try and create a BARFL footy legends page, recognising all those great players who have graced the fields for BARFL clubs over the years, whether they are Aussies or Brits (or anything else!).
I've tried detailing some of the players I've played with throughout my playing days, so drop me a line on who you think should be included.
Update: I've found a good website that lists the stats of just about all AFL players, footyinfo.org. So I've updated the details of some of my picks below.
Chris Stone (Earls Court Roos, 1990)
Chris played for St Kilda for 4 years from 1978, playing a total of 23 AFL games. He was an older player than most of the guys playing footy around this time, but he could still control the game with his years of experience.
Darren Best (Earls Court Roos, 1990-1992)
Darren was a massive ruckman and played a pivatol role in our Grand Final win over the Demons in 1991. Huge guy and nice with it. I thought Darren was good enough for the fringes of AFL, but sadly there is no record of him on footyinfo.org..
Dale & Shane Claridge (Bristol Dockers, 90's-00's)
The Claridge brothers were very decent servants both to the Dockers and the Bulldogs. They were both as "hard as nails" and seemed to love the game as ex-rugby players. Dale was the more nimble (IMO) player and was relatively skillful despite is VERY short fuse. I can remember him running through on goal with the ball only to stop to thump someone!
Shane was was probably a little calmer than Dale but was a great leader for both club and country. Both of these guys were very competitive and that showed in their committment and service to the Dockers.

Darren Ogier (Earls Court Roos, 1991)
Was probably the main reason we won the flag in 1991. He literally ran amock! I've never seen a player like him in BARFL since. Was truely a great ball player who could run around the whole oval with the ball.
Darren played for Carlton, North Melbourne and Sydney playing a total of 23 AFL games over 5 years.

Mark Zanotti (London Gryphons, 1999)
"The Wildman" was definately past his best when he started the London Gryphons with me in 1999. Although he still had what made him a great player, he had retired from AFL in 1995 and had enjoyed too many luxuries in life to be the force he once was. But nonetheless, he took the Gryphons to the semi finals and nearly pulled off the ultimate comeback by dominating the last quarter.
Mark played for West Coast, Brisbane and Fitzroy and was by far the most experienced AFL player to play in the BARFL. He played 156 AFL games kicking 19 goals in total and got a total of 20 votes over 9 years.

If you have any players who you played with over the last 17 years or so, and I've no doubt there are many, please drop me a line with the names, club(s) and years, and a brief description of them.
It would be really good to hear from you.
